The ancient concept of education amid nature still finds takers today. In fact, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) saw something on similar lines when Harsh Doshi, a student of GIPE, began 'Under the Banyan Tree' (UTBT), a weekly discussion forum in February. "I wanted to bring back the good practices of policy research, where students and professors can meet and discuss burning national issues. This helps students to have a fair view of any policy and helps them strengthen their stand on it," he said. The open discussions see participation of 35-40 students from different colleges. "Within an education system so fixated on rote learning, the dynamics of this initiative awakens the thinkers in students like me," said Kshama Mishra, a first-year MSc student at GIPE. Topics like solar power policy in the country, absolute freedom of speech and similar student-centric issues are discussed.en_US
